Here’s to kindness;
In a world where you can be anything, be kind.
I recently had the kind of day that simply put was shitty. If you have ever read or watched ‘Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day’ then I was Alexander on that day. The kind of day that one bad thing gives birth to a worse thing. I might just start ranting about that day but this is not about that.
I have met people who are the embodiment of the word kind. On the day I was going through it, I decided to take a minute to breathe. I stood by the side of the road, and wanted to yell but then I would look like a crazy person so, I took deep breaths. I wasn’t there long but some girl walked up to me and said hi. She introduced herself and asked if she could stand next to me. I wanted to say no but then she said, she thought I needed to stay in silence with someone. And I did. So two strangers, stood by the road, in silence.
That might look like some minute gesture, but for me, it meant the world, that on a day I was almost breaking, someone made it bearable. That for a second, I was the recipient of kindness.
I am inviting kindness in my life. I want to be the kind of person who stands in silence with a stranger just because they look sad. I want to be the kind of person who lets someone go ahead of me in a line just because I can. I want to be kind.
Dave Chappelle said in one of his specials; ‘We might not be able to change the whole world but we can make our corner of the world outstanding.’
The plan is to make my corner as kind as possible.
