UNSENT LETTER 39.

This one is for anyone looking for home:

“Home is any place that makes you forget the world is on fire, at least for a moment” — Rudy Francisco

I have read a whole lot about home. How home is where the heart is. How home is not just a place, it’s a feeling and sometimes it’s both. How home is where or who you go to when you want to feel safe.

We all want to belong somewhere. We all want to feel accepted. And I am yet to meet someone who does not want to feel safe. When I was a kid, I dreamt a lot, and I won’t lie, I am still a dreamer. I dream about doing things I’m passionate about, being successful, rich, famous, happy, living a long healthy life, having a family… I bet you do too. Among the many dreams I have is being a home and having a home that is a safe place for my friends, family and anyone who might ever need it.

I have to mention, my reality is somewhat informed by the amount of shows I have seen in this lifetime. One of my favorite shows that feels like sleeping in on a Saturday morning with hot choclate and fluffy vanilla pancakes waiting for you as soon as you are ready to wake up; Good Witch. The protagonist, Cassie Nightingale is the embodiment of kindness, love and warmth, her doors are always open to her family, friends and even strangers. She listens to everyone’s problems and advises them on how to proceed, showing her wisdom and unique way of helping others. She intern has people who do the very same for her. She is the definition of home and her house definitely became home to most of the people lucky enough to have an encounter with her.

According to Habitat, home is a safe haven and a comfort zone. A place to live with our families and pets and enjoy with friends. A place to build memories as well as a way to build future wealth. A place where we can truly just be ourselves.

As for me, I want to be the Cassie Nightingale for my family, friends and anyone I meet along the way. I want to have a home that’s filled with love. laughter and warmth. A place where the walls are filled with memories, the good, the bad and even the ugly. Where everyone knows what place their favorite mug is hiding. A home that one can come to have a good cry and then randomly burst into song and dance. I want a home that brings me so much joy to be in. So in my quest for home, I am learning how to be kind, how to invite others into my joy and pains, how to be the light the world needs. I am learning how to move with grace and kindness. I am learning how to be home to myself and in turn home to those I know.

“The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.” — Maya Angelou
