This one is for Jabali:

“Breathe deeply, until sweet air extinguishes the burn of fear in your lungs and every breath is a beautiful refusal to become anything less than infinite.” — D. Antoinette Foy

There are a couple of memes I saw a while ago and they were something like; ‘Now I know why roosters wake up and their first thought is to scream’ or, ‘I finally understand why we give a blood curdling scream the moment we are born’ or better yet, ‘Is it appropriate to just up and scream in the middle of the day then go back to your business as usual?’ You get where I’m going with this? No? Well, let me give you some context…

Have you ever had to remind yourself to breathe? In and out, in and out, like it’s not some involuntary action for one’s body? Like we did not come into the world screaming, grasping for air and finally taking our first breathe as naturally as a baby can! If you haven’t, kindly, thank your lucky stars, or the angels, because they are doing a great job ensuring you do not have to remember how to breathe…

For someone who can talk anyone’s ears off, the last few days have been way too silent. Every once in a while, the ups and downs of life run towards me at speeds I did not prepare for and the last few days were definitely not one of my best days. I remember listening to the sound of my beating heart at some point when my nerves got the best of me. I have to say, it did not sound calm, it merely reminded me that the world can be a scary place.

Seeing as the scary season has been here for a while, it is only right to talk about the scary stuff. Like how we are constantly fighting our own demons. How we are trying to grasp for air every other second hoping that the next breath will be better than the last. How we are trying to navigate life as best as we can.

I have been fighting small battles all my life, mostly in attempts to win wars. And yes, I have won some and definitely lost some. One or two of the, could have been solved easily, others I am still trying to find ways to solve.

No one tells you how much fighting you have to do to navigate life. Ever so often at the end of the day, I find myself thinking; ‘We survived yet another day’. And the last few days, we did not just surivive, we came out on the other side better and wiser.

There is a lot of uncertainty in the world. Yes, the world can be big, scary and nerve wracking sometimes and that is okay. You have to breathe. You have to remember that you are young and full of mistakes. There is room for learning and unlearning. There is room for stumbling and tripping. It’s okay to not have everything figured out. It’s okay to take a minute to just breathe.

“Remember to breathe. It is, after all, the secret of life.” — Gregory Maguire

P.s I think the fist quote is very much Jabali’s vibe
